Post Doctoral Associate Opening in Global Mental Health and Addiction Science at University of Maryland, College Park
Dr. Jessica Magidson will be joining the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park in January 2018 and will be hiring a full-time Post Doctoral Associate in global mental health and addiction science. Dr. Magidson’s program of research at University of Maryland will offer an exciting opportunity to be engaged in global and local addiction science and mental health research. This position will be primarily involved in directing a series of funded projects focused on behavioral intervention development for substance use, depression, and HIV treatment adherence globally in Cape Town, South Africa and locally in DC/MD. Projects focus on examining the effectiveness and implementation of peer-delivered behavioral interventions for substance use and their integration into community-based health settings, including HIV care in Cape Town, South Africa, a community health center in Baltimore, MD, and a residential substance use treatment center in Washington DC. Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: project management, research staff supervision and mentorship, clinical training, intervention development, data analysis and manuscript preparation, and grant preparation. The position will be based at University of Maryland, College Park, the flagship campus of University of Maryland, located only 5 miles outside of Washington DC, and 30 miles from Baltimore, MD. There are opportunities to travel to study sites, including those in Cape Town, South Africa.
Applicants who have a background in global mental health, behavioral medicine (HIV/AIDS treatment, primary care settings), and/or behavioral intervention research in addictions will be given strongest consideration. The postdoctoral associate should have completed the requirements for his or her PhD in Clinical Psychology, or a related behavioral sciences field (epidemiology, public health, social/ behavioral sciences). A successful candidate would have training and experience in quantitative research methods, a strong publication history and record of securing external funding, excellent social, organizational, writing and data analysis skills, ability to work independently and support external and community-based collaborations. Opportunities for independent data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing will be available and encouraged. Clinical supervision for licensure will be available. This fellowship has the potential to lead to a faculty position depending on the candidate’s ability to develop his or her own clinical research portfolio, teaching and supervision interests, and interest in collaborating on existing funded projects.
