                                                                              We are looking for:

                                       A PSYCHOLOGIST - MENTAL HEALTH & CARE PRACTICES EXPERT


Context: AFGHANISTAN – Kabul (frequent trips to Ghor, Balkh, Helmand)

Length of Contract: 6 months starting on November 16th


The Position: Under the supervision of the Deputy Country Director, you will be in charge to contribute to the implementation and monitoring of Mental Health & Care Practices (MHCP) programs as well as the development of MHCP interventions according to ACF and international standards and national policies.

More precisely, you will have to:


  • Assist the PMs in implementing the MHCP component of the ongoing programs

Ensure regular field monitoring visits when possible to the project areas

Provides technical support to the field teams and technical updates when appropriate and possible
Supports project managers in setting-up of tools for monitoring of the logical framework indicators in their respective projects in consultation with the Field Coordinator
Supports project managers in monitoring the budget and targets achieved with reference to the project proposal, and making any necessary adjustments in consultation with the Finance Manager in the base and the Field Coordinator
Ensure initial and on-going training of psychosocial staff on psychosocial activities
Ensure regularly scheduled project progress reviews with project managers and lead staff, providing feedback and course-corrections while monitoring effectiveness
Adapt the project’s objectives/results/activities/methodology if relevant
Analyse and control the technical performance and relevance of the projects



  • Contribute to the definition of the MHCP strategy, positioning and external coordination according to ACF’s country strategy and the government strategy

Actively participate in relevant forums concerned with MHCP
Ensure good coordination and representation towards stakeholders and partners
Attend technical workshops and technical working group meetings related to the programs
Develop the skills of colleagues in other partner organisations within the program
Produce quality reports of project activities for both internal and external circulation diffusion
Identify needs relative to MHCP in Afghanistan, coordinate needs assessments on MHPSS and child and maternal care practices and/or collect information on the humanitarian situation
Propose MHCP technical advocacy themes on the mission
Contribute to proposal writing in link with other departments


  • Ensure the quality and accountability of MHCP interventions

Ensures that the technical protocols, manuals, guidelines and forms used in the field are in line with ACF and international (IASC, Sphere) validated technical tools and guidelines and when available and possible, with national guidelines
Ensures the overall monitoring (operational & financial, qualitative & quantitative) of the projects with a particular focus on the deadlines, objectives and indicators
Work in close coordination with technical Head of Departments (FSL, WaSH and Nutrition & Health) for multi-sector and integrated projects having MHCP component
Evaluate MHCP teams skills and needs in terms of training, propose and organize trainings
Ensure the timely production of monthly and technical reports from the field; provide feedback when required
Follow up the activities, analyse and evaluate the programs; conduct field visits as required


  • Guarantee and ensure the confidentiality of data collected during the MHCP activities of the mission

-    Ensure data confidentiality, ownership of project beneficiaries and ACF

-    Guarantee the confidentiality of clinical interviews / individual or group counselling with the psychologists in charge



The applicant: You hold a Psychologist degree and have 4 years minimum of experience in field level and expertise in psychosocial sector and behaviour change.

A previous experience in managing psychosocial programs in the field in coordination with other technical departments is highly desirable

Your diplomacy, your context sensitivity and your team management skills enable you to evolve in stressful contexts.

Excellent English skills are required.



Gross monthly salary ranging from €1805 to €2305 depending on relevant experience

Food and hygiene expenses, per diem, transportation costs, collective or individual accommodation, medical insurance

25 days of annual paid leaves and 20 days of rest and recuperation (R&R) per year
