A general adult psychiatrist by training, I've worked in the NHS for a number of years. I'm now working with an NGO Parivartan and with KEM Hospital, Pune, India. I also work in short term locum positions in the UK a few months in a year.
Through Parivartan, I am working on two community mental health programmes. One in an urban and the other in a rural setting. These programmes aim to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate services built around existing government systems. We hope that the findings from these programmes would be useful in informing mental health policy and therefore effect change at a broader level.
I am interested in service development and evaluation particularly in low resource settings. This is where innovations in mental health service delivery are crucial in ensuring maximum number of people benefit with the exisiting resources.
