External actors offer opportunities to unlock additional resources for global mental health

Despite the rising burden of disease and costs in low- and middle income-countries, mental disorders attract few resources. With governments often under economic pressure, external actors could offer opportunities to unlock additional resources. This new study from the London School of Economics and Political Science presents a new typology of external actors in global health adapted for the sustainable development goals era and uses it to systematically map available evidence on external actors in global mental health.

The new typology of external actors for global health is also available as a separate research and policy tool. The tool provides a framework for policy planning and research in sustainable development in global mental health and global health. It is for researchers, policy makers, funders and investors, advocates, people with mental disorders and their families and carers.
