PEER RESEARCHERS’ REFLECTIONS ABOUT SUCCEED AFRICA IN MALAWI

I am happy to be involved in the SUCCEED Inclusive Mental Health Research and Care in Africa as a person with lived experience.  Most of the time, we are being maltreated in hospitals and communities.  This research will help me and persons with lived experience to know how we should be treated and cared for in different settings. It will also help other health professionals to have the knowledge and understanding of how to care for clients in various settings

My involvement with SUCCEED project research is a huge milestone for me as I am going to learn to improve my communication, analytical and management skills. I am also happy that the team welcomed me warmly and I look forward to learning from them. After hearing about SUCCEED I was happy with the fact that they need first-hand information from people with lived experiences because I feel like in everything you do, the insights of people with lived experiences are valuable and can contribute to improved care. No one can truly understand what happens within a psychosocial disability except the person who has experienced it despite having vast learning information.
