International collaborative study on indicators of institutionalization, data from Africa

We are in the process of launching a collaborative project with Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC) worldwide to investigate indicators of institutionalization of the mentally ill, a subject of great importance for public health and the development of mental health services.

This project is in the line of previous research (Mundt et al., 2012) (Mundt et al., 2015) investigating trends and possible relationships between the rates of psychiatric beds and rates of incarceration

Now, we would like to geographically increase the participating countries. Therefore, we are looking for collaborators in each LMIC targeting researchers who are interested in joint publications in an international scientific journal.

The data we will collect for each country are: · the number or rate of psychiatric beds · the number or rate of places in residential or housing facilities for mentally ill people · the number or rate of forensic psychiatric beds · the incarceration rates

We are collecting these data from 1990 to the present for as many years as possible.

We are trying to connect with collaborators from each country in Africa who would be interested in collaborating with us, by providing this data.

If you are interested, please contact Constanza Risso at constanzarissod@gmail.com and/or Dr. Adrian Mundt at adrian.mundt@mail.udp.cl

Thanks in advance
