Launching for Portuguese speaking countries of the Report of the Lancet Commission on Global Mental Health and Sustainable Development
The Lisbon Institute of Global Mental Health organized, with the support of the Portuguese Ministry of Health, the launching for Portuguese speaking countries of the Report of the Lancet Commission on Global Mental Health and Sustainable Development, that took place on 24th January, at NOVA Medical School, in Lisbon.
The session was opened by the President of the Lisbon Institute of Global Mental Health (José Miguel Caldas de Almeida), the Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (Teresa Ribeiro), the Representative of the Minister of Health (Luís Pisco) and the Representative of the Director of NOVA Medical School (Miguel Xavier). During the event, the Report was presented by Shekhar Saxena (main editor of the Lancet Commission), and its implications for Youth were presented by Claudia Sartor (Representative of the Youth Mental Health Campaign). Then, the implications of the Report for Low-Income countries and for Portuguese speaking countries were discussed by Benedetto Saraceno (Commissioner of the Lancet Commission and Secretary-General of the Lisbon Institute of Global Mental Health) and José Miguel Caldas de Almeida (President of the Lisbon Institute of Global Mental Health), respectively. The session continued with statements from representatives of the Portuguese speaking countries, namely Massoxi Vigário (Angola), Pedro Gabriel Delgado (Brazil), Aristides da Luz (Cape Verde), Jerónimo Té (Guinea-Bissau), Lídia Gouveia (Mozambique) and Miguel Xavier (Portugal).
The session was attended by about 150 participants, including mental health professionals, administrators of mental health facilities, Ministry officials, policy makers, professional bodies, academicians, Non–Governmental Organisations in the fields of mental health and human rights, and Portuguese stakeholders.
