Global health is about social justice and human rights in the context of health. Specifically, we are interested in how health, illness and disability are socially patterned; and how many of the world's health problems are not bounded by borders, but shared, and best tackled by collaborative innovation and cooperative action. We fuse evidence, ideas and action by working with civil society, corporations, United Nations agencies and governments across more than 40 countries, impacting policy and practice and producing excellent scholarship.
CGH has academic staff across Trinity’s Schools of Medicine and Psychology, as well as many regular contributors to our teaching and research programmes, both from other Schools within Trinity and from other Universities, civil society organisations, the private sector and United Nations organisations. Our full-time staff has disciplinary backgrounds in psychology, anthropology, economics, political science, management and nursing, and they have all lived and worked in low-income countries. Reflecting our inter-disciplinary ethos, the Centre is administered though the School of Medicine, with the Director based in the School of Psychology.
CGH’s Mission is to engage with partners across all sectors to promote health, well-being, opportunity and social justice. Our Masters in Global Health was the first in Europe and our International Doctorate in Global Health (Indigo) the first of its kind in the world.

The Collaborative Network for Training and Excellence in PsychoTraumatology (CONTEXT)
Launched in 2016, CONTEXT’s goal is to conduct high quality, innovative research, build capacity and expertise, and foster innovative practice in the area of global psychotraumatology. An international, interdisciplinary collaboration between nine European partner organisations spanning the academic, non-governmental, voluntary, and public sectors, CONTEXT has three interconnected research programmes, each concerning a priority population in Europe: (1) EU-based asylum seekers and refugees; (2) Emergency-service personnel and humanitarian first-responders; and (3) Survivors and perpetrators of childhood- and gender-based violence.
Pathfinder
Part of an international effort, and in preparation for the release of the ICD-11, Pathfinder seeks to validate a new scale for the diagnosis of PTSD and Complex PTSD Data collection completed with Syrian Refugees in Lebanon, in collaboration with International Medical Corps.
Perform2Scale
A seven-partner, EU-funded (€6.6m) programme, Perform2Scale officially launched in January 2017. The aim of Perform2Scale is to strengthen the management at district level to support the achievement of Universal Health Coverage, and to develop and evaluate a sustainable approach to scaling this up in different and changing contexts (Malawi, Uganda, Ghana)
The Global Collaboration on Assistive Technology (GATE)
GATE is a global initiative developed by WHO to promote access to quality, affordable assistive technology, and its research component is coordinated by CGH. GATE has over 700 participants and is planning on moving from its set-up stage to a multi-donor funding model in 2017, with an initial likely target of $10m.
Sudanese Medical Specialization Board
CGH has recently launched a new partnership with the Sudanese Medical Specialization Board, the sole professional training body in the Republic of Sudan, with a mandate to manage and deliver medical and health specialty programmes throughout the country. Working together, our goal is to improve the research capacity of their Medical Doctorate graduates through improved supervision, increased research integrity, increased appreciation for research, and increased publication output.
