Gateway Health Institute

Gateway Health Institute

Gateway Health Institute (GHI) is a leading civil society organisation in South Africa in the HIV and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights fields that is woman-owned and LGBTI-led.

Mission statement

GHI focuses on vulnerable and marginalised groups such as adolescents, women and girls and LGBTI and follows a human rights based approach as expressed by our slogan “Your Health. Your Rights”. Our strengths include networking and partnerships, not only nationally, but also at a regional level in the The Southern African Development Community region. They are active members of the Sex Rights Africa Network, the African Coalition for Menstrual Health Management and the Gender Based Violence Prevention Network, among others, and have a reputation for building the capacity of smaller community based organisations and young people through our onTRACK and Intern4Change programmes. GHI has received five international awards for our innovations in maternal and child health, three of which were from UN agencies.

Our Motto, Your Health. Your Rights, expresses what we want to achieve. We aim to have a positive impact on the health and rights of hard to reach and vulnerable populations through advocacy, community empowerment projects, knowledge management, research and innovative technology.
