United Children Integrated Development Action (UNCIDA) Uganda

UNCIDA empowers children and their families to be able to enjoy their full potential and to ensure that their rights and aspirations are fulfilled through beneficial partnerships, accountability, mutual respect and transparency in Uganda.

Organizational structure
United Children Integrated Development Action Uganda (UNCIDA) is an indigenous, non-governmental organization (NGO) that was established in 2008 and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee (under section 18(3) of the Companies Act 2012). UNCIDA is a neutral, objective and secular organization that is governed by a board of directors whose roles include the supervision of the organization’s monitoring and performance. Our staff is comprised of men and women with formal education and in-depth training. UNCIDA has an Administrative Unit, Finance Department Unit, Head of Programmes Unit, Project Officers, Community-Based Officers and Volunteers with the capacity to address current and inter-related development challenges.

To contribute towards the advancement of integrated, locally-driven solutions and lasting, sustainable improvement in the lives of children and their families in Uganda.

Summary of relevant work:

UNCIDA works to address the root causes of poverty, injustice and discrimination with a particular focus on programs that contribute to the strengthening of local, protective environments and improved social transformation and well-being in the lives of children and their families. We do this through:

Innovative Partnerships
Implementing high-impact and quality programmes in the areas of child poverty, agriculture, food security and nutrition, HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases, health and well-being, water, sanitation and hygiene, conflict prevention and resolution, passive culture and history-promotion, education, training and employment, child rights-governance, torture-prevention and prohibition, child-protection and legal support, gender equality, climate change and renewable energy in development cooperation.

Our mandate is to operationalize the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC 1989) and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In doing so we aim to create a gender-equal environment where boys and girls, women and men can enjoy the same status and have equal opportunities to realize their potential as prescribed by the United Nations Common Understanding of the Rights-based Approach to Programming. This ethos is imbibed in UNCIDA Uganda’s core values.

Our policy research serves as an essential tool for streamlining the responses in programs and building vigour to analyze and create new strategic actions. These then inform service delivery programs for children and families in the promotion of social justice and human dignity.

UNCIDA works in partnership with international, regional and national organizations, universities, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, stakeholders, school clubs and school-based programs and other community structures/networks with a belief that working with the existing structures enhances the continuity of interventions at different levels.
