3. Mailing Lists

We use your personal information to send you monthly e-newsletters summarizing our latest website content. We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our newsletter. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter and to improve on our communications marketing approaches to better suit your needs.

For more information, please see MailChimp's privacy notice. Your email address will be stored in MailChimp's database for as long as we continue to use MailChimp’s services for email marketing or until you specifically request removal from the list. You are legally entitled to inform us at any time if you no longer wish to receive these newsletters (You can either email us at mhin@lshtm.ac.uk or unsubscribe yourself). We do not rent or trade email lists with other organizations and businesses.

Personal information submitted to us via this website will be used for the purposes specified in this privacy policy or in relevant parts of the website.

We may use your personal information to:

  • enable your use of the services available on the website;
  • send you email notifications which you have specifically requested;
  • send to you marketing communications relating to our business which we think may be of interest to you by post or, where you have specifically agreed to this, by email or similar technology (you can inform us at any time if you no longer require marketing communications);

Of course, data transmission over the internet is inherently insecure, and we cannot guarantee the security of data sent over the internet.

You are responsible for keeping your password and user details confidential. We will not ask you for your password (except when you log in to the website).

7. Data Retention and Disposal

We may collect and store any or all of the information you provide on the website which is hosted on a secure server and is SSL certified. Information related to membership may be stored for up to a maximum of 10 years. Information collected through web-forms will only be stored for up to a maximum of 5 years after which it will be securely deleted from the online server. These forms include the following:

  • 'Feedback Form'
  • 'Contribute Content Form'

8. Website Server

This website is hosted by Linode within a UK data center run by Telecity. Telecity implements high-end physical security in their data centers: All facilities are well protected by 24×7 human security, biometrics, secure monitored single person entry and video surveillance (source: Telecity).

All traffic (transferral of files) between this website and your web browser is encrypted and delivered over HTTPS.

10. Data Breaches

We will report any unlawful data breach of this website’s database or the database(s) of any of our third party data processors to any and all relevant persons and authorities within 72 hours of the breach if it is apparent that personal data stored in an identifiable manner has been stolen.

This privacy policy may change from time to time in line with legislation or industry developments. We will not explicitly inform our clients or website users of these changes. Instead, we recommend that you check this page occasionally for any policy changes.
