Artin A. Mahdanian, MD, FRCPC
Dr Artin Mahdanian is a Persian-Canadian existential psychiatrist. He has been trained at McGill and Johns Hopkins universities and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC).
After completing his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, Dr Artin pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Mental Health Research and a medical residency in Psychiatry at McGill University in Canada. As a visiting researcher, he has worked in Global Mental Health with the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland and with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in the UK. He furthered his academic training with a postdoctoral clinical fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in the US.
In addition to his expertise in psychopharmacological treatments for mental health conditions, he has received training in various psychotherapy modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Existential Therapy, and Jungian Analysis. In his practice, he employs an eclectic existential approach, incorporating the most beneficial aspects of each method during therapy sessions (Eclectic Existential Psychotherapy).
His clinical and research interests encompass Mood/Anxiety/Trauma conditions, Student Mental Health, Existentialism, and Global Mental Health focusing on Human Rights and Recovery.
