Brief Biography: 

Dr. Cohen is a clinical psychologist who has been in practice for over 30 years. Currently based in New York,  she consults with humanitarian organizations to conduct trainings and develop psychosocial and mental health programs for recovery from violence, war and displacement. Dr. Cohen has launched projects in South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Ecuador,  Nepal and Bosnia-Herzegovina.  Based on the trans-cultural phenomenon of women’s story cloth groups, Dr. Cohen has developed Common Threads (www.commonthreadsproject.net) an innovative group recovery model for women who have survived sexual and gender based violence. Her intervention is being implemented and studied in diverse settings. 

She earned her doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1986, and a certificate in global mental health from the Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma in 2010.
