A MHIN review summary* for the systematic review entitled: 'Interventions for common perinatal mental disorders in women in low- and middle-income countries: a systematic review and meta-analysis' (Rahman et al, 2013).

This review assesses the effectiveness of interventions that improve the mental health of women in the perinatal period in low and middle-income countries; and also evaluates the effect on the development and health of their infants and children. This review highlights that common perinatal mental disorders can be reduced through interventions delivered by supervised non-specialist health workers, and these interventions benefit not only the women's mental health, but also the development of their children.
