The WHO Mental Health: A Call for Action publication highlights the results from the four consecutive Round Table Discussions at the 54th World Health Assembly. 30 Ministers of Health discussed the challenges they face in addressing mental health problems in their countries and to engage in a dialogue which they shared information, approaches, and opportunities for redressing the situation.

The objectives of the Round Table Discussions were to raise awareness of the urgent need to address the mental health burden, to place mental health firmly on the national and international health and development agendas and to generate political commitment for increasing support to mental health policies, legislation, programmes and services in all countries.

The report advocates for working with countries on the critical barriers identified by the Ministers of Health, forging wholesome and sustainable partnerships, and providing technical support to countries as health systems restructure their mental health system, generate policies and improve the provision of services and treatment.
