Researchers have identified close links between mental health and virtually every key issue in international development. Cost-effective solutions to mental health care do exist, and there is also evidence that mental health can be improved through development interventions beyond the health sector. Yet mental health is too often side-lined from international development. Without global action on mental health, the Sustainable Development Goals cannot be met.

This policy brief makes three recommendations to improve mental health as part of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

It was prepared by the MHIN team in September 2018 for United for Global Mental Health with funding from the Wellcome Trust, in preparation for  "Time to Act on Global Mental Health", an event held in New York during the 2018 United Nations General Assembly.
