In June 2014, the Perinatal Mental Health Project released this policy brief to describe the outcome of efforts to develop a shorter, less cumbersome maternal mental health screening tool appropriate for delivery in the South African primary care context. The rationale and process behind the tool's development and validation, as well as recommendations for its use, are discussed.
