Based on evidence drawn from a comprehensive review of scientific literature and research studies as well as United Nations, development agencies, governmental and non-governmental data sources, the Mental Health and Development report makes the case that people with mental health conditions are a vulnerable group, and as such, deserve targeted attention in development efforts - sectoral and broader developmental strategies and plans. The recommended actions in the report provide a starting point to achieving these aims.
This report has been produced as part of a Research Programme Consortium entitled "The Mental Health and Poverty Project" (MHaPP) funded by the Department of International Development. MHaPP is examining the policy level interventions that are required to break the vicious cycle of poverty and mental ill-health, in order to generate lessons for a range of low- and middle- income countries.
