Briefing paper on COVID-19 and mental health: immediate and long-term impacts

This briefing paper provides a summary of the (emerging) body of evidence on two topics: the impact of Covid-19 on peoples’ mental health and wellbeing; and, conversely, the projected impact of mental health on the efficacy of Covid-19 prevention, treatment and control measures.

WHO Resources: World Mental Health Day 2019 - Suicide prevention

The focus of this year’s World Mental Health Day, on 10 October, was suicide prevention. WHO used the opportunity of World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September to launch, together with partners, a campaign asking people to prepare to take 40 seconds of action on World Mental Health Day and published a number of materials.

Humanitarian Hands-on Tool (HHoT)

A smartphone app, HHoT, provides step-by-step guidance on how to implement a disability inclusive emergency response. Launched in 2018 the HHoT app also includes specific guidance on the inclusion of people with psycho-social disabilities.

This Toolkit aims to support the understanding and implementation of integrated mental health programs in humanitarian settings. It clearly outlines the steps for integrated mental health programs, and includes key guidance and resources that strengthen the integration process among non-governmental implementing agencies, donors, and governments. Authored by Seth Mnookin (MIT), this report is a product of almost two years of activities of a Working group chaired by Arthur Kleinman (Harvard University Asia Centre).
